We manage 75,000 port calls per year, which means that every 7 minutes, anywhere around the world, we send a ship safely out to sea again to fulfill its purpose. We match local expertise with strict global standards, ensuring that we consistently make our customers’ port calls as efficient and safe as possible.

The position:

We are looking for a Ships Agency Operations Manager to assist the Ships Agency Manager in managing the Ships Agency Operations for the specific sites; driving service quality and effectiveness and managing resources and processes related to the agency services provided by Wilhelmsen Port Services (WPS) within designated sites:
Rio de Janeiro
Vitória
Salvador
Fortaleza

Other sites maybe designated or changed in accordance with business needs.

What you will be doing: (Main Responsibilities)

  • Overall responsible for the port and site operations
  • Ensure that Ships Agency performance and service quality is according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Pro-actively identify new means of achieving cost savings, including vendor discounts on behalf of the principal.
  • Selecting, appointing, and evaluating vendors and suppliers, ensuring compliance with WPS procurement governance.
  • Actively identify new business and sales opportunities in the territory/country and work with Ships Agency sales to promote local ports towards customers.
  • Ensure profitable port operations by increasing revenue, whilst driving efficiencies to control costs.
  • Ensure correct amount of pre-funding is received, or the correct level of authority has approved any deviation, prior to performing the port call, in line with the Chart of Authority. Same to be ensured when additional funding required prior vessel’s sailing.
  • Ensure procedures relevant to Disbursement Accounts production are implemented and optimised.
  • Ensure efficient and competent resources are appointed at port location(s).
  • Ensure onboarding and regular training is conducted for all employees.
  • Overall Ships Agency QHSSE compliance within assigned Territory and use of Take 5 as appropriate.
  • Responsible for supporting and ultimately driving the collection of spot port call receivables
  • After departure analyze the port call and communicate to the customer the provided added value.
  • Required experience and skills:

  • Bachelor degree within Maritime or Business management field, or alternatively work experiences compensating for formal education.
  • Min. 5 years’ experience in Ships Agency Operations
  • Familiar with Local Port Authority regulations, procedures, and governing tariffs.
  • Ability to multitask and organise under pressure without compromising safety of personnel and vessel.
  • Good communication skills and command of the English language (oral and written)
  • Strong mentoring and customer relationship skills.
  • Self-motivated and result orientated.
  • Good cost awareness and control
  • Computer literate.
